Well, didn't think I would ever got around to finishing something, but I did. And I'd probably finish a whole slew of things if I would pick them up, they are very close to being done, but I got a little bit bored of working on them. Bad me, I know.
But enough about that. More about this :

They are my camo socks, I made them for my roommate. In honor of the hilarious show "Redneck Weddings". Those people sure love their camouflage, even on their wedding dresses from time to time. So how better to get into the spirit then to knit a little lace sock. I found the pattern in a book and changed it a little on the foot. Make it more interesting.
I forgot to write down the brand name of the yarn. But I found it at Joann's. It knits very easy and comes in interesting colors (pink camo for one)
I Like the result. Socks are comfy... maybe my roommate doesn't know they finished and I can keep them :)

I have to apologise to everyone for not being a good bloger this year. Many of my family have been seriously ill, and I have had 6 interstate trips.

Ufo extraordinaire's holiday projects

My apologies to everyone that I have been absent from bloggerland for so long. We have had many serious health problems with various members of my family. We have just returned from a short stay in our unit on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. We went so we could check up on my father and mother. Mum is nearly 86 and now is in a care hostel.

Even though we were only going for 10 days, I optimistically packed lots of UFO's. Holiday time means lots of knitting and craft time - right? I put in quite a variety of knits, sewing and embroidery, so I wouldn't get bored with any one thing. As usual, I spent so much time packing craft essentials that I didn't take other essentials such as shampoo. Must get the priorities right.

Here are all the projects I took. Lucky there is a weight allowance on the plane or I might have taken more (ever the optimist)

Funny how there is a lot less time to do craft work when busily catching up with family and friends. I made some progress on the blue baby sweater, finished the blue hat, and progressed the light green baby cardi. I also did more blanket stitch on the applique project. I had hoped to work on the beaded lace scarf, and the chocolate shawl, but didn't get much time where I could concentrate fully on knitting. I took the smocking project to my sister's embroidery class, but barely got started. I missed going to the patchwork class to sew up the pink bag, as it clashed with hubby's reunion with old school friends.

However, by hook or by crook I had to finish Mum's pink cardi, as I didn't want to bring it back home and have to post it.

OK - I guess I have to confess that I am not getting any better with my UFO problem. I have heaps of projects lurking. Cast-on-itis is hard to cure. Are any of you doing better in the finishing department?

The Hempathy short fingered gloves are finished. This was one,long, hot and Summer and a fiery early Fall.

I'm hoping to finish the Pi shawl,Gretchen, before Spring. The TrekkingXXL red boot socks were my only other knitting in the hot weather. Tiny victories!

It's Been Too Long!

It has been way too long since I've posted but our busy lives just keep getting busier, or so it seems. Above it the Prairie Shawl from Cheryl Oberle's book, Folk Shawls. I used Rowan Plaid and size 11 needles. I really enjoyed knitting this and was surprised that it didn't take as long as I thought it would.

Here's a pair of socks knit with Opal in their Rainforest collection (Owl, to be exact). I used size 1 needles for these babies and that's just about as small a needle as I can stand. Mostly, I use size 2's for my socks and they seem to work out well for me. These were a gift for my DIL and she loved them.

I finally completed the Aran baby blanket too, which was a very long time coming, let me tell you. I used Shelridge Farms merino which was a dream to knit with and size 8 needles. My sweet little 2nd granddaughter is snuggling under this one as we speak!

I've been crocheting quite a bit but since this is a knitter's UFO blog, I'll stick with the knitting. All the best to everyone and I hope you're enjoying your crafting and your summer, if it's summer where you live!

My 100% silk Pi shawl is actually looking like a big bowl right now; this picture shows the progress up to the time that I received the new lace addi lace needles and put them on the shawl. Oh yes, I do love these needles. I'll save my pennies to have more, no doubt about it.

So, that's it.. my four projects, and I do pledge to work on each one of them everyday but the Drops will go slower. An in the round Alpaca/Silk sweater through summer is going to get a little hot but I promise one round a day on that one. You all have fun with your UFOs. Take Care!

It's summer time here and before that , of course, it was spring. The garden called and so did cleaning out the junk in the studio part of the house.

This isn't quite whining yet, so I'll stop. I finished a green glove and put it on my blog but here is a piccie. This glove is made of Hempathy yarn. It's a tiny bit like knitting with a gentle feeling string, plied, but it's a very nice blend of cotton, hemp and model, for a little memory. Also, Gretchen the Pi Shawl and the Drops Aran Isle sweater are on their way after new needles arrived for G, and a frogging for D. So my pledge is to make daily progress on those three things, and a boot sock for the DH.

I'm going to try to upload pictures of the small progress here. Next post, but all of them are on my knitting Flickr cage on my blog if I don't succeed. It's rather early for me so anything can, and probably will, happen. I hope you have been having good luck with your knitting and with life. Ta! =o)

No new updates for quite a while, yeah? Two months. Well I don't have any pictures, but I did finish a pair of slippers for Mum for Mother's Day. I'm not sure if those count though because they weren't really a UFO, I cast on for them at the beginning of the month and finished the second one the day before Mother's Day.

Even better news is that I've been developing my knitting skills (when I first joined this blog, I could only knit rectangular things, and only in garter stitch. I have come a long way.) So that's exciting.

I got one of Stephanie Pearl-McPhee's books, Knitting Rules, and it's so awesome! I really love it, it's totally hilarious (of course my mum made fun of me for laughing at a knitting book, but you know what? She's not a knitter, either.) I guess it's one of the older ones, I reckon she's got a new one coming but I don't know anything about it.

I've been on a giant knitting craze lately; spent all my birthday money on yarn, to my mother's dismay; bought several new knitting books, and new pairs of needles; figured out a few stitches and decided on a large Harry Potter Gryffindor scarf (Azkaban style) as my next big project. Maybe. That's if I don't cast on for some hot pink slippers before I get the right size needles for the scarf.

I really did want to wait to post until I could get some pictures, but my camera's broken so that might not happen for a while. :(

I did finish this sweater for Mum, though the purl 3 together through the back of the loop, and the decreases drove me crazy. I like the effect of this pattern but I think there is a simpler version somewhere. It is fine knitted in the round, just the back and forth that is hard.

I have been washing and fixing baby clothes, and mostly knitting on the shawl for the new baby.

Long time no blog

I haven't blogged for quite a while but now that school has started hopefully I will be a bit more regular with my blogging.

I have finished a few things lately so if you would like a look I have put pickies onto my blog.

Some of the finished articles have been UFO's for a while so I'm glad to get them finished.

Joan do you recognise this yarn? It's the one that we got when we went shopping in Adelaide. It was great having a look at Barb's shop and miss 4 still talks about Merle and the walk on the beach.

I have a few more UFO's to knock on the head before I have surgery on one of my hands whenever that is. The public hospital waiting lists are very long over our way.

Frogging in 2 parts

My yarn is all over the place, and not just my place. I have a box of yarn over at Michelle's house. Why? I don't know. It's just there. (Well, sometimes she needs to 'hide' new yarn from the husband and then it "belongs to my collection". As understanding as he is, unless you are a yarnaholic, understanding will only go so far.) So, with my yarn all over the place and my projects all over the place, I continue to frog. This time it's a sweater that I started a long time ago. And it was the first one I started, didn't really check the gauge too closely, changed some things around in the pattern and took really bad notes. Not that it matters because I can't find the notes anyway. So, this is the next of my projects to get frogged. But, like the title suggests, it is a frogging in 2 parts. I had finished the back and I can't find it. I think it might be at Michelle's house. I had started the front and at least that part got frogged.
This sudden frogging need comes from feeling a little bit guilty for wanting to cast on for rogue. (Still haven't done it yet.)

It's been a very long time since my last post here (umm...a year...and a half?) Shame on me! I was surprised to discover that I had not been removed from the blog (which would have been quite understandable) and I'm glad, because I want to start blogging about knitting again.

A couple of weeks ago I finished a very simple but pretty scarf. It's striped with a combination of black and dark and light blues. I don't have any pictures of it right now.

Then I cast on for another scarf; a soft, fuzzy red one using yarn I've had for a while. I've just run out of yarn for it, so I may take a trip to LYS for more this afternoon.

No patterns, as usual. I tend to improvise, since I'm not that great yet. Ah well.

One new thing is that I've learned how much easier it is to get knitting done if I take it to school with me. =)

Great start

I am so proud of myself. First of all, I had the courage to open up my UFO spreadsheet. Turns out, I only had 18 UFOs. Then I pinned my ears back (figuratively speaking) and finished knitting the green scarf. The one I was supposed to give her for Christmas. It's a good thing she's got a birthday coming up in March.

I made it with Peruvian Baby Silk on size 5. The lace comes from some random patterns out of a book.

But that is not all I did. I decided to be brave and I frogged 2, yes TWO projects I knew I wasn't going to finish.
The purple one is a corset, that I didn't take enough time / pay enough attention to the gauge. I learned my lesson. No way it was going to fit. And I wasn't too happy with the decreases. Althoughh, had it fit, I wouldn't have cared. But, it wasn't going to fit, so I used the bad decreases as another reason to frog. The light blue-ish one was going to be a diagonal baby blanket. But it went too slow.
Just not having fun working on it. So I got brave, frogged both in one sitting. I am very proud of myself. And now my UFO list is down to 15.

Not for long, I will be casting on for rogue. But, this weekend (another reason I am proud of me) I've been working on my sock. I got to the fun part, turning the heal. Once I get to knitting the foot, I'm sure I'll put it aside again.

Yay first post! thanks for inviting me to the team blog!
so im proud to say that I am almost finished with the socks i started for my mom which is amazing for me considering i'm an enormous procrastinator and i have a.d.d. when it comes to finishing projects. but i am bound and determined to finish these socks for her b-day. :)

anywho i need some input. For christmas my aunt gave me different fun fur yarns and i cant decide what to do with them. I want something that won't bore me to death like a simple garter or stockinette scarf, but fun fur is so hard to work with in any complicated patterns. any suggestions?

Oh boy, I may have mentioned before I started a spreadsheet with all my UFOs. I was afraid to open it, but I know there are about 20 items in there. Well, to get to a good start in 2007, I have picked these nine UFOs to work and seriously make an attempt to ... work on some more. (I would say finish, but who would I be kidding.)

Let's look at what I've got, the pick blurb is clopatis, below to it a multi-colored lap-ket. Next to that are a lace shawl(-ish) and a sock (second of the pair). In the little ziplock bag is a green skinny scarf (Was supposed to be a christmas present for my mom. Oops) and next to that is my fake fur wrap sans fur. The other off-white think is hopeful, a no seem sweater. The orangy thing will be my ribbi cardi. And finally, there is a ball of yarn with some needles. Soon I will cast on for rogue. Again, I won't kid myself nor anybody else, I will be casting on for rogue. Soon. I hope to maybe finish the skinny scarf, it's almost done. But I can't make any promises, I know I am weak.
However, like I said, these are the UFOs that I will be working in 2007. Maybe finish a few. But definitely make progress. And I hope I will have the strenght to rip a few of the other 11 projects in my spreadsheet. (Yes, some will need to be ripped, I know that, I am slowly making peace with that fact. Maybe next month I'll give it a try.)

Hello Good UFO buddies,

Happy New Year!

I have two left overs from last year, the aran sweater, and the ancient shell top that will no longer fit me. I'm going to finish it, just for the discipline, and then give it to someone who might like it. Or, I might wear it under a nightgown for added warmth in the winter. hehe

My plans are to really get into the pattern for the aran and count out stitches and rows so that the errors are eliminated. It's a very old Rowan pattern from off the web, and it has mistakes in it that can drive a knitter mad. The shell top is a very straight-up knitting project.

I have one addition, a lace shawl I just started but for which I bought the kit last year. It doesn't strictly count as an UFO, but if I don't keep working on it, it will become one, and I want it not to become a UFO.

I'll make a little album of pictures in flicker, and put the link up here sometime soon.

I have a few things I need to finish. As of right now, I haven't been knitting or crocheting very much. I made hats for my Dad, Uncle, and Grandpa for Christmas. That's about it. I've gotten into making jewelry now. I've done well with that and I've been able to sell at least $100 worth of jewelry so far. I do however need to get a hat and scarf done for my Aunt to give to her Mom. I also need to finish scarves for Travis's Grandma and Grandpa. That's my biggest thing to tackle this year. Not so bad I say. I just need to get the desire to put down my jewelry making and get that stuff finished.

I do have news. I have gotten a new job. I love it. It's temporary as of right now, but I am hoping it will turn into something permanent.

Well that's about it. I will be finishing my second degree in school around the Summer of '07.

UFO Update

I have been very remiss on tackling UFOs - cast on a new pair of socks yesterday to my great delight while a scarf, three blankets and a vest remain unfinished. I am dealing with carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel syndrome so have to stop or reduce my knitting greatly so that is a big factor. I did take a few UFOs to a woman I met through my local SNB Yahoo group to finish and she has done a couple, I will be picking up few more from her soon. Some of my projects just did not work out at all. My Kitty Pi bed, my Chinese Lantern purse. Now I have some felted clogs that I am not sure about - I will give them a few more rounds in the washer (will go to a friend with a top loader this time). I have felt so frustrated by the things that don't work out that I am seeking things that are a little more simple. Like socks.

UFO's into 2007

The biggest UFO on my list...and the one that MUST be completed as soon as humanly possible, is this:

I started this for Amazing Lace, back in May...it was for my Big Sis's 60th birthday in October. It's NOW the end of December and I've done more than you see in this photo, but I've still got a good way to go to finish.

Other UFO's? Well, My Diamond Fantasy Shawl (which was started back at the beginning of 2006 and has been languishing as I worked on a lot of other things and my second sock of the Cherry Tree Hill Green Mountain Madness colorway Feather & Fan socks. All need to get done. I have other UFO's on my blog in the OTN 2006 list (one that was even on my 2005 UFO list!). But those are my most important ones...

New Year UFO's

Happy New Year everyone! Hope you all had a lovely Christmas. As usual, I have been trying to write down resolutions (lol) and of course they include finishing UFO's. I might go one further and say I want to fix up all my UFO's in 2007. Is this possible? I would have to be more disiplined. I will give it a shot.

Here are the 3 I am working on at the moment - The green sweater for Mother, (still have to work out how to do the pattern back and forward, though I decided to do the sleeves plain) a cotton vest for my son's girlfriend (she picked the pattern, but I found that changing colours doesn't work well with cotton) and a preemie cardi for charity - which I had to get some more wool to finish.

This is really painful for me, as I am up to picking up stitches on two of them - yuk. I promise I won't touch anything else till I finish these three.

I'm back - some simple projects to show

Hi friends! For some reason, I've been off blogging for many months. I do have a few items to share. A few of my close college friends have newborns this past year, so here are a couple things I created for them.

1. soft little baby hat: made from Berocco Lullaby and Hush - two nylon blend yarns that are washable. This was a quick knit, worked up on size 11's for the body of the hat. Color for each yarn: Goodnight Moon.

2. Baby cardi: I worked up on a few balls of GGH Bali cotton blend yarn. I used Purple as the main color, and Light Green and Deep Pink for the accent colors. I'm not sure where I found this pattern on the internet, but I had problems with it - especially with the button band. My first attempt, the buttons would have been 3 inches from the button holes, lol. I re-worked as best I could and you see the finished product. I hope to make another cardigan in the future, maybe a more tested pattern!!

I purchased this yarn from another knitter's stash fromKR - I learned my lesson. Be very careful even if they specify how many balls of yarn they are selling you. Sales like that don't always work out well.

I found the buttons at a regular craft store chain, and I was glad for the little stars they are - matching the deep pink color well. The little girl who receives this sweater later sent on a photo of her in it - she is darling! Hope she'll wear it a few months before she outgrows it!

happy i changed my mind

I keep finding projects all over the place. I am back up to 20 WIPS/UFOs. But that is not counting this one.
I was actually gonna be brave and frog some stuff. (I never want to admit defeat.) I pulled out this little sweater and found out I was further along than I thought. So I just decided to finish it. It a simple top down raglan baby sweater. To make it a bit more interesting, I improvised some lace around the sleeves and the bottom of the body. Took me 2 nights to finish it. (Could have done it in 1 night, but ... so many other projects were calling me, hehe.)
The yarn is some mystery yarn I got at a bag sale. It's soft.

Also, I finally bought some buttons for my chocolate mocha sweater. Just as I was starting to think there was some power against me finishing CM. Whenever I saw buttons I liked, they didn't have enough of them. But then my luck changed. Found some buttons I liked, came home and I was all ready to officially put CM on the FO list ... only to find out ... I had no matching thread! Aaarrrgghh, the universe was against me after all. But luckilly Michelle had some matching thread. And I am happy to report, 2 of the 8 buttons are securely attached.

I continue to binge on finishing projects. Here's two more.

This is my chocolate mocha sweater. I finally finished it. Well, it just needs 8 buttons, but those are just details. I could wear it like this (if a sudden cold front hits so cal) It the rosedale pattern from knitty and I made it with my favorite yarn : September 7th on size 8 needles.

This I finished a while ago, but it's a present for Michelle and I can't blog about it before giving it. So today, I actually remembered to bring it with me and hand it over. I made up the pattern myself. I wanted to try mittered squares and being me, I can't keep things like that up for one whole blanket. So I improvised.

I was so proud of myself, that I cast on for a cutesy little wrap. (I know that cold front will be here soon.)

Finished Branching Out

Finished UFO

Finally got back to this sweater after over a year.. Maybe more than that ..yikes.. Why do we do that???... Lucky for me it still fit my yongest ( 3 year old ) Grandaughter..
I had the back and half of the front done but no pattern was with it.. so I fixed the V neck which I have never made before... ( This one came out OK ).. Then I had to decide on some sleves and I decided to do a girly ruffle on the sleeve ends...It came out very cute..
The yarn is Plymouth Encore in DK weight .
I mailed it up to My grandaughter in Buffalo and she Imediately put it on... LOL She LOVES Grandmas things !!! Makes it ALL worthwhile !!!

Feels like a finishing binge

Last night I finished a little camo baby jacket. Pattern from Debbie Bliss' Special Knits and made out of Lion Brand Wool-ease. Love that yarn, it's soft, non fussy, machine washable ... and cheap. Ha. It's for one of my rubgy team mates. I couldn't find a rugby ball button, was too lazy to buy and then paint a football button to look like a rugby ball. So what sport to pick ... I know they baseball so there you go.

Last week I finished this little snuggle blanket, it will go to the shelter hopefully make a little kitty feel more comfy. I have found making these snuggle blankets is an excellent way to get rid of scrap yarn when you have too much to throw away, but not enough to give away.

So, 2 finished projects over the course of 7 days, will this start a trend...? I don't know, I'm itching to cast on for 2 new projects. But maybe I can finish another quickie thing first... maybe. Now that the weather is cooling down, it might be time for my chocolate mocha sweater to get a button band.

I have been knitting this on and off for the last 3 weeks, and wanted to get it finished quickly. It is for my mum, and I used a normal 8ply pattern, but chose this lace to do it in. I have been knitting it in the round, and now am up to the armholes. Trouble is, the pattern is on every row, which was very easy in the round, all knit. Now I have to purl back and I can't get it to look right. I thought about steeks, but what happens at the neck? I would also have to knit the sleeves in the round. Anyone have any suggestions?

A few long time UFO's

This is a cardigan that has been waiting to be sew up and also to get buttons put on for about 3, maybe 4 years now.

I have had a real case of finishitis of late and have finished off a few of my long time UFO's in the last week.

I can't remember which book this pattern was from or even what yarn I used.

I do know that the yarn is acrylic though.

That shows how long it's been waiting to be finished.
This little baby jumper has only been waiting to be sewn up and to have some buttons put on as well.

The yarn is a pretty Peter Pan 8 ply and the pattern is from a book called "Panda Baby Boutique".

This is a beautiful soft baby yarn to work with.

I have also finished a few other jumpers that have been waiting around here for completion and a scarf that has been a mindless take along project for a while.

I love shrugs. This one went pretty well. Got the pattern from Knitty. Went pretty fast, made it with Cotton Fleece from Brown Sheep Co on size 8s.
I am very happy to finish this, because last weekend I decided to take inventory of all my WIPs (UFO, but I have the best intention of finishing them). Turns out, I have 20, yes, twenty. But I think I will frog 2 of them. And 2 others are crochet and somehow, using my flawless logic (read logic with more holes then swiss cheese) crochet project will not count towards my WIPS. They get their own catagory. Not sure what yet. I could start finishing my WIPs or I could figure out some counting system where my WIPs are reduced to 2 or 3 and then cast on like crazy. Hmm, what to do...

The socks are completed even if I did have to use another color for the toes. Now I know darned well that I have at least 8 balls of the pink color hiding in my house as we speak, but do you think I can find it? I've looked everywhere I could possibly have hidden it, LOL, and it refuses to be found. Frankly, I'm surprised that it didn't just jump out of a closet the minute I was finished and had used a second color! :)
I'm thrilled to tell you that I've even managed to complete this lap blanket for my Mom for Christmas (yes, this year I've begun my presents a bit earlier than in the past). I crocheted it as you can tell but honestly, it went so much quicker than knitting one would have. Plus, I used up HUGE amounts of stash yarn so I'm really excited about that because I often feel very guilty about having sooo much stash yarn and thinking I'll never get around to half of it.

I'm already knitting a new one although I hope I have enough to make this one an afghan.....if not, then I'll be contented with a nice, long lapghan. :) I'm using Rowanspun Chunky (stash yarn as well) for this one and planning on giving it to my future DIL at her wedding shower. The pattern is from the Manos book of afghans which features 3 strips of 4 blocks each with a different pattern, so I think this will be classic looking and would make a wonderful gift for my son and his future wife.

Finally finished the baby dress. I forget where I got the pattern, it was out of a book with some super cute stuff. Made it out of Lion Brand Micro Spun. It's microfibre, easy to wash, so baby can spill all over it. Made it on size 4 needles (never again!!! to darn small). I improvised on the collar. The directions got a little weird, or at least, weird enough for me to not feel like figuring them out. I hope little Jenny's head will still fit through.
And now, even though I have plenty of projects that need finishing, I'm gonna go get yarn and cast on for a shrug, hihi.

This is the anthropology inspired shrug. It's a quick little one day, no seem project. My favorite kinda project. Made with Mauch Chunky Yarn on size 13 needles. Glad to say I finished it just in time for the summer heat, in which you wish you could go out wearing absolutely nothing.
O well, come fall, I will gladly use this little shrug to keep my shoulders warm though.

Two on Two Socks

I'm further along than this photo shows on these socks which will keep my mom's feet very toasty this winter, trust me! I'm using Rowan's wool/cotton in a jazzy pink color but my mom is adventurous so she'll love the color. :) I'm finally getting the hang (pun intended, LOL) of knitting 2 socks on 2 circulars which alluded me for quite some time. Like anything else, once you get it, it's an easy flow, but up to that time, it can be all tangles. :)

I also broke this out of hibernation and I'm trying to really get back into the Fair Isle rhythm in order to actually get somewhere with this project. It's the vest from Schoolhouse Press which Meg Swansen did. I love the colors and I'm most surprised by the fact that I like knitting on the finer Shetland wool much more than I thought I would. This, even though, it doesn't grow very quickly, LOL.

This jumper has been in the UFO pile for a long time.

It has only been waiting to be sewn up for about the last 4 1/2 to 5 years.

It has finally been sewn up, had buttons put on and gone to the shop to be sold.

I have been a busy little vegemite in the last few weeks and have put out 11 articles that have been ordered as well as a few that just got done because I felt like doing them.

Done! Three afghan squares

I've been taking a class at my LYS that meets twice a month and is teaching squares from XRX's The Great North American Afghan Project. I have now completed three of the squares. The first square took me six weeks because I kept making mistakes - it was my first time working with DPNs. It has gotten easier for me; I have now started my first pair of socks and am itching to cast on another pair with some yarn that arrived today. But I am firm about working on my WIPs, so despite that fact that I have bound off 3 squares and completed my class assignment on the socks (part 2 of the 3 part sock class is next Friday), I will resist the urge to cast on, and continue with the Victorian jacket WIP, adn the handle on the Nicky Epstein Fuschia bag that I've been working on.

I tell myself, it will feel good to complete these things.

Here is a list of my WIPs:

Cotton chenille flower washcloth from Melanie Falick's Weekend Knitting - the knitting is quite tedious now that it is in the round...

Cardishawl in cashmerino superchunky -- need to unravel the sleeves, undo the bindoff, knit a bit more to make it a little longer, crochet a trim and make it a wrap, not a "cardishawl"

Not on the needles, but I should cast on another cable strip so that my 2 cables have some company and are on their way to becoming a blanket (it is made of 8 strips) This is from the Knitter's Bible which I really like

the front/sleeves of the Victorian Jacket from the Great Adirondack kit I bought at Stitches. It drives me crazy that the yarns do not look like they are from the same colorway.

Karabella mohair circular crochet shawl - perhaps I will repurpose that yarn into one of the many knit lace patterns I found while choosing an Amazing Lace project.

The Nicky Epstein fuschia purse. I have to knit one more handle - and then seam it, duplicate stitch, weave ends etc... The handle is a good carry in the purse project to pick up any time so I will cast that on and put it in my bag...

And then there is the sequin fringe to sew on the roses purse, and the seam to finish on the Chinese Lantern bag - and some cord to buy for the drawstring... And the sampler pillow (also from Knitter's Bible) which needs to be sewn, and I think needs one more small square.

Problem is I have so many things in my queue! I have conceived and have all the components for a ripple wrap with the Judi & Co ribbon yarn that I've been pondering for some time. And then there is the lace projects in the previous post. And I have come up with an fast easy use for some Fiesta Rayon Boucle Yarn in Safari that I bought (a garter shawl on big needles). The old cliche is true for good reason: so much yarn, so little time!

Traveling Vines Lace Scarf FO!

One false start in the wrong type of yarn, but here she finally is! Cari's Traveling Vines Scarf done in Koigu. The colorway is hard to photograph but is olive, terracotta, taupe, and lavender. Size 5 needles (bamboo straights). Okay, I'm only 5 months late in meeting my goal (but that's partly due to my inexperience in lace - I didn't realize that the sock yarn with acrylic in it wouldn't block until I was halfway thru the scarf the first time! lololol!

The Starmore Inspired Cardi

I finished this about six weeks ago, and have been waiting for Kylie to buy the perfect buttons, but so far she is wearing it pinned together!

Celebrate with me, I finished my first three nominated long term UFO's. I know that I should now pick my next longest term ones to work on, but as my house is in chaos with renovations, I will leave it a week or two. I am currently working on a dog coat and a sweater for Rowan, not too exciting, but the knitting muse is strangely absent at the moment.

I continue to knit on my "never ending" Aran baby blanket, albeit in between other items, but this particular project plainly refuses to grow in any significant amount! I knit 10 rows just last night and I swear that it measure the same as it did before I began.......go figure. I've just begun my last skein of yarn (Shelridge Farm worsted weight) so this will be finished when the skein is completed no matter how long it turns out, at which time, I'll be heard cheering from the sidelines and popping the cork on a bottle of bubbly, LOL.

It's been strangely quiet here on UFO's and I'm wondering if this means that no one is really working on older projects or just that we haven't posted often, as in my own case. At the snails pace I'm going, it'll be awhile, but I'll be back sooner this time around.

I have a sneaking suspicion ( EDIT: Yep! It sure did! Came back to take out that extra code!)that this picture might show up three or four times. It sure looks like it in the code. We will see. Anyway, this is the 1980 yellow and white afghan, off the needles. It turned out very well and I might add a fringe or knitted edging but that's for another time. I'll probably take this to the bay with me and wrap up in it. Hope everyone else is doing well. The next UFO is a sweater I started in the 80's, on my blog but I will repost it here so you don't have to go look there unless you reaaaaaally really want to.

Hi All,
I just wanted to let everyone know that it was me who went and changed the template for comments to requiring word verification.
I also deleted the comments that I found that were UFO related - as in flying saucers.
I guess when doing a blog search for the Rod Serling "do-do-do-do" stuff, we come up. It's pretty funny, but annoying too.

I've also joined KTC - which is a fun way to have a reading group in conjunction with a knitting group.
I've joined the Sexy Knitters Club, and depending on what is chosen for the KAL, may find some stash to knit their next project - voting is taking place right now.

A long time coming.........

This project has been on the needles for about 9 years.

It's a cot blanket knit in 4 ply cotton and consists of 12 squares knitted in the round on a set of 4 needles.

When all the squares had been knit and sewn together the border was then knit and sewn on.

I was really chuffed to get this cot blanket done so I continued to finish a few more long and not so long standing UFO's.

This little jumper is knit from a cotton yarn called "Terry".

This project had been on the needles for about 10 months.

All it needed was to be sewn up and then the buttons sewn on.

It has now been finished and it won't be long until it has a new home.

As well as these 2 UFO's I have completed 2 childrens cardigans that only had the backs knit. They are now both knit, sewn up and they also have their buttons on them.

I have also done quite a bit of other knitting like baby beanies, baby socks, baby jumper and of course socks, socks and more socks (but second sockitis has hit).

A Few UFO's Finished at Last!

I finally finished 3 of my projects, and speaking of Entrelac, this is my first try at this technique, which takes alot of concentration (at least it did for me :) but it's addictive once you get into it.

The afghan is the Manos sampler and it seemed like I worked on it for years, but in reality, it was only about 1 year! That's long enough, I guess but I'm so glad I joined this group and you spurred me on to keep on keepin' on.

The hat is knit using Jo Sharp DK Tweed and I made it for my nephew. He apparently takes it off only now and then, when his parents insist, so that's a very nice compliment. :)

Now, I'm working on a pair of Opal socks, a pair of Mt. Color socks, an Aran baby blanket, and my Manos cotton cardigan, but if the truth be told, I seem to spend all my time on the socks and not very much on the other two UFO's.....any suggestions?

I'll say bye for now and many congrats to all of you who have finished so many lovely things and supplied pictures! :) It's a good feeling isn't it? Also a very special thank you to Sharon, one of our illustrious knitters here, for all of her help when I peppered her with many questions....she's one special person!

I restarted this as I am going to Queensland in a couple of weeks, and as Mum is 83 soon, I figure it has to be finished now. (She started it about 50 years ago.

Trouble is I forgot the pattern that I had worked out with so much trauma. So I knitted and frogged etc etc until I have something like it in pattern and tension. I have only to reknit one front, which I did before, as the tension is not right.

Here are two hats that I got done for Caps for a Cure. I am enjoying this KAL so much! It's so rewarding knowing that I am making a hat for someone that will really appreciate it. I have 4 hats done now and planning on starting on another one here soon. I am also making scarves for the girl that I tutor for her to sell for Relay for Life at her church. I'm hoping to get her a good bit done for her to sell. She is also making necklaces to sell. She's such an ambitious girl, I admire her a lot, even though she is a lot younger than I am. I guess I just wish I was like that when I was her age. She knows a lot more about the world that I did at her age.
I also finished my Aunt's Mom's hat. It's the same as one I have made before so I won't be posting a picture. Basic 3 x 3 rib. I am also almost finished with Travis's Grandma's hat using the same pattern but a new color I haven't used yet. I LOVE the color. Visit this site to get the specs for the hats. I just can't bring out the labels again right now.

Intervention Needed

Some Intervention may be needed. I joined the knitting olympics (Yarn Harlot)

and decided to knit Lady E.

I'd never done entrelac, so cast on a scarf to learn, before the main event. Then my friend Sharron wanted to learn it, and I realized that the Danica Scarf I was knitting wasn't the best learning experience or teaching tool, so I cast on another one, in Noro Shinano, and began knitting it in tandem with Sharron. Then the olympics started, and I cast on for my main event Lady E. Now I have 3 entrelac projects on the needles. In addition to 2 cardis, 2 pullovers, a scarf and a pair of gloves. I'm in danger of creating more UFO's here. After I did such a good job last year of eliminating all my ancient UFO's.

This is 2 of 3 of a set the I am making for my sister. I just finished the Wrist Warmers last night and the hat a couple days ago. I used Wool-Ease Worsted Weight in White Multi 301. I used not even a 2.5 oz ball for the hat and then not even a 2.5 oz ball for the wrist warmers. The hat pattern comes out of Stitch 'N Bitch Nation it's the Basic Cable hat. And the wrist warmers are from the Irish Hiking Scarf KAL blog. I am still working on the scarf. As soon as I get it done I will show it to ya :) Sorry I haven't posted in a while, I haven't posted a REAL post on my blog in a while either. I've been in a knitting slump since Christmas was over and I've been busy with school, work, and tutoring plus I've been sick and can't get over this crap and it just drains the life out of me because I haven't been getting much sleep at all.

Oh yeah, that's right! I finished my VK cropped jacket. Ok, so I'm not counting the fact that I still need to weave in a few ends. But everything is knit and sewn together. Feels good. All though right now I have 4 projects staring at me from my desk. But I will not let that interfere with my feeling of victory.

Kittensmittens, I'm sorry, but I laughed right out loud reading your post.
Isn't cast-on-itis the reason most of us are here - an ability to cast on for new projects before finishing the old?
I'm happy to say that last year I really laid to rest my vintage UFO problem.
All my projects are now WIP's...unfortunately, I have too many WIP's on the needles and have to guard assiduously against laying one aside.

And now I've just committed to a project for the Olympic Challenge that Yarn Harlot has proposed. Actually, I've set the qualifying criteria that I complete 3 projects before the Olympics, and I still have to decide on what project to knit for the challenge.
I put a blog-poll up on my website taking suggestions on the project.

Anyone else joining either Yarn Harlots Olympic Challenge or the UFOlympic Challenge that's out there?

Glad to say I have finished all the pieces of my VK cropped jacket.(You can see the sleeves in the background) I am so close to finishing, I just had to cast on for the ribbi cardi. But I went back to my cropped jacket, and right after I finished the second sleeve, I couldn't find my yarn needles. Maybe I should have started on the edging? No, make a gauge swatch with the yarn I bought as a reward for almost finishing the VK jacket. And the other brown yarn in the bottom left corner,.. well, I know what I want to make with that and it is on my mind. Today I got the pattern for it. How long 'til I cast on? I'm sure it is just a matter of minutes.

I need help. I think I can blame most of my cast-on-itis on the recent full moon. But how long will it last...? (And these projects are just the tip of the yarn iceberg.)

Ok, I'm not yet tired of the worsted merino I have stockpiled in my stash. Above are some photos of the Royal Blue colorway I used for the hat and farrow rib scarf for my Dad. FOs for 2005.

Then, chose a green colorway for my first Irish Hiking Scarf. This photo makes the slight blue hints in part of the colorway pop, but it is much more subtle (still lovely) in RL.
I know it is likely that a sweater may show pilling from this yarn, but these items have held up well. The IH scarf is nearly done now. It will be a gift for a relative.

Happy New Year fellow UFO'ers. Hope you all had a lovely Christmas and a super New Year celebration. Ours was fairly quiet, but very enjoyable.

I finally finished the dog cardigan for Rowan. I put it with his Christmas gifts though it will probably be a few months before it is cold enough to wear. It has been 108 degrees here some days.

I also finished the pink baby cardi, nearly finished the white one, and figured out how to go ahead with the saddle shoulders for Kylie's Cardi. Now for the matching beret for Rowan. I wish I didn't change the wool from the original patterns as it creates such a hassle. I never seem to learn.

Hey all fellow UFO Anon-ers, Here is a pic of the finished cabled Alpaca (Plymouth Baby Alpaca Grande) wrap I finished for my Mom. I finished it late in the evening on Christmas Eve - steamed the edges flat with the iron, rolled it in a bunch of large bath towels, and unrolled it about 7am Christmas Day. I let it hang out while we went to mass, then put it in gift bag and under the tree. It is nice and heavy, cozy cuddly wrap. I think the Mist color looks great with my Mom's dark hair and fair skin. (The actual color in RL is in between these two photos, but closer to the top pic.) She is usually feeling cool around the house, and since they had about 20 inches of snow on the ground in upstate NY, it is something to throw on over a sweater when heading out to the car, etc.

Here are some wrist warmers I finished for my friend Nicole. Made from Heavenly (by Artful Yarns), I had a tough decision which color combination to choose. They have about 6 choices at the LYS I work at. (my hand models them - not hers :) )

I also finished a couple hats, and a Farrow Rib scarf (Christmas gifts) - will post photos at my blog. Tomorrow is New Year's Eve, and the LYS I normally work at is closed, so I will spend some time knitting, on computer, cleaning (and starting to pack my apt - since my lease is about up). Shel

Here are the first two pictures I took with my new digital camera which my wonderful daughter in law and son gave me for Christmas.

I finished these socks in the past couple of months and I'm happy to report that I also finished a major UFO, my Manos sampler afghan! YAY! I will take a picture of it sometime this weekend so you can see it. It came out so lovely when blocked and seamed together and it's toasty to lay under. The ones who love it most are my 2 cats, Bunny and Trixie. :) , but those of you who have cats probably already knew that would happen.

I'm working now on 2 more UFO's, an Aran baby blanket and a cotton cardigan knit using Manos cotton. I found out I don't particularly like knitting with cotton, but it will be a much cooler sweater for me to wear, since I'm always hot as blazes. I'm not sure how long I'll be able to wear my Fair Isle wool cardigan once I finally finish that, but I know it won't be for long.

I have been soooooooooooo busy knitting and also working that I just haven't had the time to make an entry on my own blog as well as this one.

Since my last entry I've finished 6 knitted articles even though 3 of them made up a baby set.

1.I've finished my toe-up socks using the trekking yarn that I got from the lovely Sockmonster.

2, 3, & 4. A green jacket, bonnet & booties for a friend who's having a little boy in February.

5. White lacy baby singlet for the shop that I work in leading up to Christmas. I forgot to take a pickie of the singlet before I took it into the shop. Bummer.

6. Navy cotton socks using the Pretty comfy Socks pattern from Socks around the world.

I have also knit another quarter of my last UFO from when I first joined this group. That means that I am now half way with the baby shawl that I have been knitting for quite a while.

I have also knit the 1st sock from a pair from the new Vogue Knitting Socks Two on the go knitting book. I'm using Regia yarn and am very disappointed as it is tweed and stripes and the stripes blend in a bit much for me. Oh well you can't win them all.

Not much knitting has been done today as hubby bought me (US as he's using it more than me at the moment) a PSP the day before yesterday and this evening I bought a new game for it and guess who's hooked?

Contratulations to all those of you who actually have finished something!

I'm adding rows every day to the never ending afghan. It will be huge when finished and what I was ever thinking back in the 80's when it was started is questionable. I plead insanity. I wanted to use up some of my mother's yarn that I'd found in her stuff.

The socks are both past the gussets and growing daily toward the toes. The latest piccie at the blog (title links to it) shows them several days ago.

As a side note, the replacement wheel for the spinning wheel arrived today, on time, and it's perfect. Now DH is putting on the finish. This has been a lesson patience and in Karma, probably.

I am still working on many UFO's but here is one I finished and gave to my sister (in NH) over Thanksgiving break. My youngest niece, Catie, turned 6 two weeks ago, and wanted the honor of modelling the bag.

I used the fantastic worsted merino from handpaintedyarn.com, in the color Ibisco. I knitted this up in seed stitch, attached it to the suede tote bottom, and sewed on the matching handles. She liked it!

I haven't posted anything here for a while because I have been in denial, 'I don't have any UFOs' but I looked in my knitting basket and there they are staring at me so I am going to list them here and then finish them off one by one:

1. Falling leaves socks-3/4 finished the first sock
2. Lacy Shrug-right side and back completed
3. Zhivago sleeveless vest-right side and back completed
4. Ribby Cardi-1/4 finished the back

I know there are only four but for me that is at least two too many, I usually like to have two WIPs only an easy peasy TV watching one and a more complicated one for my quiet times. I will finish the Zhivago sleeveless vest first and then attack one of the other lacy ones. Okay I feel better now for confessing all, now you will have to keep me at my word and I MUST NOT start anything else!!!

I cannot believe that Thanksgiving is only 2 days away! Where did the time go anyhow? We're looking forward to spending the day with our son and DIL at the shore, so we'll be by the ocean and get to walk on the beach, hopefully. My DIL is one of the best cooks and hostesses for get togethers that I've ever met. She if one gem, if I do say so myself! :)

I've been knitting up some Christmas decorations such as a mini sweater, a Santa type hat, and a pair of mini mittens. I'm having a bit of trouble with the thumb part of the mitten though, which are added on after it's finished. The directions tell you to pick up the bottom of the 3 purled stitches which were knit into the mitten as I went along and knit up 3 sts. Okay, so far, but then it says to turn it upside down and pick up the top 3 purl sts and knit those and then knit 3 rounds. When I do this everything is all gnarled up and looks nothing like a thumb! Do I use 2 separate strands of yarn to do the picking up or do I use one? Can you help, any of you wonderfully talented knitters out there?

Yes, I admit it. I have backslid, and am now knitting a pink baby cardi, and I cast on the Mystery Shawl. I was in such a slump, and I had to frog some of the purple cardi again.

I have done an inventory of all my ufo's - knitting, embroidery and sewing and it is scary. What is even more scary is that I counted up my stash and the total is staggering. No - I can't even admit the number even to you guys.

I finished another FO on my list. Here it is, the hat to match the scarf I gave my Grandma a while back. She wanted a hat to match.

I used Red Heart Grande in Polo. I haven't found the link to the pattern. I have to look. But as soon as I find it I will post it to the post on my blog. This only took a couple of hours and it's my first knitted hat! Yay!

Back onto my 3rd UFO

I have finally started back onto my 3rd UFO as well as I started a new sock on Wednesday.

Today I've been back onto the baby shawl that is my 3rd UFO. The shawl is worked in 4 sections. I completed the 1st section quite a few months back and haven't had the time or the will to get back to it until the other day. I am very determined to get at least the 2nd section done.

In recent weeks I've knit a baby singlet (vest) and also a baby jumper (above). These are both FO's and are waiting to be distributed to their new homes. I have also finished my pair of "Jaywalking" socks. The socks were finished about 2 weeks ago.

I got a new addition to the stash on Tuesday when the lovely Katt bought our latest acquisitions to the local S'n'B. Katt, Cindy and I had previously ordered some yarn through the Sockmonster. I just couldn't resist and started a sock with my new Trekking on Wednesday and finished the 1st sock Thursday morning. The 2nd sock is on the backburner while I get a bit more of the shawl done.

I just had Gallbladder Surgery, so I was using that as an excuse to cast on whatever I wanted but enough is enough! My WIP's are getting a bit out of control. I tried hiding away the ones that are misbehaving in a closet but as Roberta said, they are starting to party. Or at least spilling out everywhere. And now there are at least 3 major projects I want to cast on for soon. And at my feet is the latest Vogue Knitting which has at least one new sweater I want to make. I think it's time for an intervention!

Has anyone seen the Dusting off those WIPS blog thats out there? They actually went and got prizes donated for a FO contest they are having through the end of the year. Now theres incentive! Finish a few things in order to acquire more. ;) shhhhh, don't tell on me but I seem to do a great job of acquiring more without finishing much

I've inventoried my UFOs around here again and have officially designated the rest of 2005 as accumulating FO's. I need some pics to add to that lonely little chemo cap in my FO folder on Flickr.

The list:

Silk Garden VK 11 project. I had such momentum going when I frogged that horrible old BIG sweater and reknit the yarn into #11 from Vogue Knitting this fall. Then, I couldn't find the right color in a lace weight mohair to do the ruffle hem and cuffs and I knew that if I used the Classic Elite Le Gran that I had it would be heavy, weighing it down, and I'd hate it - again. I want to love this sweater/ensemble. On my circle tour of yarn stores in Michigan last weekend, I found the perfect yarn at Threadbear Fiberarts in Lansing - so no excuses. Tomorrow I will take that whole project to Sharrons house, (she is my finishing guru) and have her fit the skirt to me, (I've lost weight and now need to take in the skirt and finish it), decide with her if the sweater is too long and maybe take out some of the bottom rows (I did a provisional cast-on just for this reason), then seam the thing and cast on for rows upon rows of ruffle. Est completion date: Nov 30
the good old Jaeger houndstooth check shell. All I need to do is pick up and knit 3 rows of ribbing around the right armhole opening - do it tonight ML, jeeze what a procrastinator I can be!
Vintage blue mohair cardi in closet upstairs - seam together and pick up and knit button band. sew on buttons. (right after completing VK11)
Ashlees Irish Hiking scarf - weave in last 2 ends and put on fringe. (thanksgiving weekend)

any misc gift scarves I can get made in here will be a bonus!

That ought to keep me busy and from playing around with the idea of starting anything new. I want 10 items in my FO file for 2005.
